Action: Database Administration
This allows you to modify the Database Record and Field Definitions
(the database schema) so that they accurately match the actual database.
The Database Configuration is normally created automatically on the
server from the actual, physical database on the Master Client. You can
use this section to override all or part of that automatic configuration.
Please click Configure Database.
This is where you specify the type of Database that a Client PC uses
and the details that enable the Server to connect to it.
The Client should be connected to the Internet and the Client's
ispan running, so that details can be verified on the Client as
you enter them. (It is possible to enter configuration data without
the Client being online.)
Please click Configure Client.
This is where you add a new ispan Client so that they
can link to your Database. After the Client has been added
you will be directed to the Client Configuration page.
Before configuring the new Client it is advisable that ispan
be downloaded to the new Client PC. This must be done on the PC
that will access the new Clients local Database.
Please enter the new Client's name and click Login to Create
the new Client.
You can load a Skeleton Database, which is a normal Database that
you create, from a Client PC onto the Server. The Skeleton may be
empty, or you may have already pre-loaded some Records into it, or
it may be fully loaded with all the latest data.
The Skeleton can be used by a new Client to create their initial
Database. The new Client must first be configured to receive the
Skeleton Database by setting the name of the Skeleton in the Client
Configuration Action (above).
Please enter the name of the Client with the Skeleton (usually the
Master Client) and click Load Skeleton Database. You must have
already created the Skeleton on the Client and the Client must be
currently connected to the server.
The Form Creator is a quick way of building a form through which
the user can view, capture or edit data from the database.
You can use it to create pages that look very like the screens
in the PC application through which the user normally displays or
enters data, thus providing a familiar interface.
In addition to standard queries, you can create a data entry form
which, when filled in, is submitted for import into the your application.
Action: Client Data Syncing
Please click the Start Sync button to start a Data Syncing Session.
The Client's ispan program must be started and the Client PC must
be connected to the Internet.
By opening the Form for your Application you can have access to all
the forms provided for viewing your Application data.
All activity between a Client and the Server is logged on the Server.
You can view the log to check on the success of sessions, or to
troubleshoot problems.
